Grading Interview Questions and Answer

For those who are going for grading from Jan 2010 onwards to obtain your Poom, Black Belt or higher grade, there will be an interview by the examiners after the sparring/unarmed combat.

The interview will be graded by the examiners as well. Therefore, do not take it lightly. You must know it well and able to answer upon being questioned by the examiner.

Examiners will randomly pick a few questions to be answered during interview.

Examiners expect more detailed examples and elaboration for more senior candidates.

Examiners are looking for HONESTY, POLITENESS and whatever 'CORRECT' things that was practiced in class.

During the interview, stand with both legs and put your hands behind your back. Answer the examiner's question and end with a 'Sir' or 'Mdm'.

For questions 7 to 15, the answers are open ended. Other answers may be accepted as long as it sounds reasonable. The answers provided serves as a guide only and do not serve as the model answer.

For the interview segment, the commander shall instruct the candidates to queue up in a straight line about 1.5 meters away from the examiner’s table. They shall stand in order of their numbers – that is, the number one candidate first followed by the rest.

When the examiner is ready, he shall signal the first candidate to approach him. The candidate called will bow, walk towards the examiner and stand at ease about 0.2 meters away from the table.

The candidate shall answer the questions clearly and concisely. On completion of the interview, he shall take a step back, bow and move off.

Candidates should conduct themselves well at all times as their demeanor will be taken into consideration when the examiner assesses them.
